Frequently asked
Is FlashPaper free?
Yes. FlashPaper is free to download and use, and it needs no account.
Which platforms are supported?
Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit) today. There are no macOS or Linux builds yet — if you need one, tell us. See the install page.
Where are my papers stored?
In your Documents\FlashPaper folder, one folder per paper, with a document.json and your images. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Does it need the internet?
Only once: the first PDF build downloads the LaTeX packages it needs, and each new template's packages are fetched the first time you use it. After that, builds use the local cache.
Can I submit the PDF straight to a journal?
“Official” templates use the publisher's own LaTeX class. “Look-alike” templates reproduce a venue's layout and are best for drafting — use the venue's own kit for the final submission. Export a LaTeX project if you need to finish in Overleaf.
Does it support citations and a bibliography?
Not yet. Citations (.bib import, a citation picker and DOI lookup) are on the roadmap, along with footnotes and links.
